Ian Sillett - Head of Song Writing
Ian started playing the piano at 5 years old. As a teenager he won the National Yamaha/Times Educational Young Songwriters Award. Finishing his A-Levels Ian won a place at Leeds College of Music where he studied piano until he was offered a place to be the first intake of students at LIPA. Since graduating Ian has been busy as a pro musician with jobs such as performing, writing & producing. Ian has travelled worldwide playing concerts & festivals. As a session player he has played for Beverley Knight, Jamelia, Blue & Sugababes & played alongside luminaries such as Mark Knopfler, Joan Armatrading & Sir Paul McCartney. Ian is also keyboard module leader for Musicians Channel on SKY TV. He has been signed to Fused & Bruised & East West Records and had publishing with Jimmy Ruffin at Ruffland Publishing Ltd. Ian has composed & orchestrated for film which won several international awards & is now currently co-writing & co-producing a double album for Disney. Ian is also a qualified music teacher.

Jim Williams - Head of Guitar - Guitar Tutor
Jim led an award wining avant garde jazz trio with Golden Globe winning film composer Craig Armstrong of Massive Attack and has performed as guitararist extensively in the studio with diverse artists ranging from This Mortal Coil to Pete Murphy to Maxi Priest to M-People. He has also co-written with many great writers.
Recently he has prodeuced, written and remixed with RnB artists such as Terry Walker, LSK and Hinda Hicks and also scores for TV series.
This year alone, Jim’s writing and guitar playing has been heard by 40 million people in the UK alone !
Guthrie Govan - Guitar Tutor (Degree)
Guthrie is a jaw dropping talent! He has an incredible ability to mimic guitarists from almost any genre. Guthrie won the Guitarist of the Year in 1993 and is renowned amongst his piers as probably the most versatile player in the world. Guthrie is the lead guitarist in the prog rock band Asia and has played alongside legends like Tony Levin, Steve Howe and Vinnie Colaiuta. He also contributes to Guitar Techniques and Guitarist magazine.
Adam Bushell - Tutor Leader / Drum Tutor
One of the UK’s foremost session drummers, Adam has played and toured with hit artists including Sheryl Crow, Faithless, and Celtus. Adam is a regular column contributor to Rhythm magazine, and is a veteran of major label record deals. Adam uses his vast experience to specialise in advanced technical development.
Kate Cameron - Head of Vocals
A professional session singer for 15 years, Kate has sung on several gold albums including Ministry of Sound’s Ibiza ’99. Kate also enjoyed great success with Norman Cook’s band Freak Power and their amazing album ’Drive through Booty’. As well as being signed to MCA/Universal she has collaborated on several tracks in the UK Top 40. Kate’s credits include the likes of Judge Jules, Boy George, Tim Westwood, Danny Rampling and Paul Oakenfold!
Carleen Anderson - Head of Vocals
Carleen is a true star and has a talent, pedigree and charisma that is totally unique. Originally Carleen shot to fame as lead singer with the Young Disciples and later Brand New Heavies. Subsequent solo albums with Paul Weller on production duties whilst work with Bryan Ferry and Dr John, confirmed her status as the queen of British Soul. Amazingly she is also the God-Daughter of "The Godfather Of Soul" James Brown. Carleen continues her successful solo career whilst being totally committed to teaching - we are privileged to have her with us!
Jon Stewart - Head of Music Business Studies / Senior Academic Lecturer
Jon was the lead guitarist and songwriter for 90’s Brit-Pop stars Sleeper, enjoying 3 UK Top 5 Albums and 9 UK Top 40 singles. Jon has also written and recorded with artists such as KD Lang & Mel C, and has played sessions for multi-hit record producers Stephen Street (Blur) and Damian Le Gassick (Madonna. Jon writes a long-running column on the music business for Guitarist magazine, and also works as a supervisor for film and TV projects. At BIMM Jon is Head of Music Business Studies/Senior Academic Lecturer and is available for one to one tutorials.
Pat ’The Shred’ Heath - Guitar Tutor
All the notes, all the time! And then some!!! "You have to see Pat play, it’s brilliant!" A regular contributor to Total Guitar and Guitar Buyer Magazines, Pat has also a great deal of experience in music retail so he can advise you not only on your playing, but also how best to spend your money when it’s time to buy a new instrument. Pat has also recorded a solo album which he produced himself and has his own music production company.
Paul Bielatowicz - Guitar Tutor
Paul is a graduate of Leeds College Of Music where he gained a BA Hons Degree in Jazz Studies. Paul has been at teacher at BIMM since day 1; writing a large portion of the course notes and specialising in monster technique. Paul regularly writes and records for both Guitarist and Guitar Techniques magazines. In recent years, Paul has earned a name for himself as a technical guitarist in the Prog Rock genre and is currently a member of both ’The Carl Palmer Band’ (Emerson, Lake and Palmer) and Neal Morse’s band.
