Steven is the Head of Academic Skills HoD at BIMM Brighton. He prides himself on bringing a genuine passion for academia as he assists students in their academic development and helps them develop their critical skills to get the most out of their degrees.
Steven is a musicologist who works predominantly on postmillennial rap, metal, and rock music. Following study at the University of Surrey and the University of Oxford, he has recently completed his PhD at Kingston University London. He has spoken internationally on his research into music listening, perception, meaning, and analysis. Alongside his academic studies, he is active as a drummer, producer, and composer, including soundtrack work for the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science and the British Institute of Posthuman Studies.
As a recent addition to the BIMM Brighton academic faculty, Steven had this to say at the prospect of his new role.
“It’s clear that working at BIMM gives the unique opportunity to engage with promising musicians and industry practitioners from a range of backgrounds. I’ve been really impressed engaging with students’ ideas, both in person and in written essays. I’m excited to help improve the academic standard of written work, firmly embedding study skills into the topics that interest us.”
