Professional Certificate in Music Business


This one year vocational course is equivalent to two ‘A’ Levels, and is designed to develop your knowledge and enhance your business acumen in an ever changing music industry. You will learn how to manage and promote artists whilst connecting to the music industry through our diverse and highly experience tutors and masterclasses.

You’ll gain a fundamental understanding of the way the music industry works, plus will learn key research skills, management, how to put on your own events and how to market and promote utilising tried and tested techniques as well as online in this digital age. All in all, it’s a fantastic grounding to understand modern music and the industry that surrounds it.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn in a creative environment where you’ll develop strong connections with fellow aspiring entrepreneurs and musicians, and will be guided by your tutors and prominent music industry professionals to help steer you towards your future career or study goals.

Successful completion of the course will gain you a nationally recognised qualification, and the certificate is a great gateway to either taking your first steps in a music industry career, or continuing on with study in the form of a music degree at BIMM.

  • Live Event Management

    Live events are one of the most diverse and exciting aspects of the music industry and in this lesson you will learn how to plan and run your own shows. You will be shown how to organise, budget, promote and manage events and given valuable experience so you are able to go out and do this for yourself should you wish.

  • Marketing and Promotion

    This is a vital aspect of product management and without it live events and album releases have very little chance of success. In this lesson you will learn how to market and promote live events, record releases and merchandising.

  • Music Industry in Context

    This lesson tracks through history and looks at how the music industry has evolved and explores the reasons behind this evolution.

  • Music Industry Studies

    Music Industry Studies is the opportunity to delve deeper into aspects of the Industry that are extremely important such as contracts and publishing.

  • Music Management

    The role of Artist manager has changed massively over the years and to keep up with this you will look in great detail at the roles and responsibilities that a manager must undertake.

  • A&R

    Artist & Repertoire is where you will learn how to spot talent and work with artists to help develop them musically. You will get the chance to put this into practice with real bands from the certificate course.

  • Extended Studies

    Extended Studies gives the opportunity to recap and expand on the information covered in the course. It is also a great chance for us to bring guest speakers in to help further your education and ensure you are prepared for a future in the music industry.

Admissions criteria:
Five GCSEs at Level C to include English Language – or equivalent. Overseas students where English is not their native language must meet a minimum English language requirement of IELTS 6.0. we require a minimum of 5.5 to be achieved in each band.
