Richard graduated from BIMM Bristol in 2012 with a BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship. After study, he kept himself busy with regular session work, and played in wedding and functions band, Freeze, where he has performed for many corporate clients, including Sainsbury’s, Thatchers, Churngold and Sam FM. During his musical career, Rich’s been lucky enough to perform onstage with the bassist from The Shadows, Jet Harris.
Following an idea he’d first had while at BIMM, Rich then set up Mobile Guitar Tuition Bristol with fellow musician, Henry Wilson. During his time studying, he used his relevant course modules to investigate the possibility of formally setting up the business – doing a thorough market analysis, checking out the competition and formulating a strategy. The business is a successful teaching service offering high quality guitar tuition to students either at home or via Skype. The boys currently teach both acoustic and electric guitar to over 50 regular students across a huge age range from 8 to 65.
Rich also has experience of teaching music in schools in a group environment as part of the South Gloucestershire Music Hub, and was interviewed by Total Guitar magazine about making a living as a professional guitarist, featuring in an article entitled ‘How to become a guitar teacher’.
But one thing’s for sure – Rich has definitely come a long way since first being inspired by a Spanish guitarist on a family holiday to Menorca aged eight and subsequently taking up the electric guitar. Mobile Guitar Tuition Bristol may be a fairly new venture for Rich, but we know it’s got the makings of a long, sustainable and flexible career in the music industry and it’s already proving to be a roaring success!
