Tocotronic’s Rick McPhail Joins BIMM Hamburg

10 April, 2018

BIMM Hamburg is delighted to welcome  Rick McPhail – one of the city’s most renowned musicians – as its new songwriting and performance tutor.

Rick’s career started as an Elvis impersonator at just six year’s old, but the talented keyboardist and guitarist is best known as a member of the influential German band Tocotronic. Rick, who has worked with everyone from Dish H20 to former Kraftwerk musician Karl Bartos, is the latest big name to join BIMM Hamburg’s expanding team.

The decision to appoint Rick as BIMM Hamburg’s songwriting and performance tutor was an easy one for us. Since 2000 he has been based in Hamburg and is an instantly recognisable face across Germany. Aside from Tocotronic, Rick – a self-confessed gear nerd – has also produced a long list of great bands, such as Swearing at Motorists and Sleeping Policemen, not to mention his numerous side projects.

Rick joins BIMM Hamburg with a wealth of business experience from his time at Popkomm, which was formerly one of Europe’s largest music industry conventions. Add to that his tenure at EFA – once one of Germany’s largest independent record distribution companies – and it’s easy to see why he is such a fantastic addition to BIMM Hamburg.

With such an illustrious career, we can think of few people better suited to inspire a new generation of talented students at BIMM Hamburg, which will open its doors in St Pauli later this year.
