This weeks track comes from Bristonian, Alternative 5 piece, Rozelle.
Rozelle have been busy little bees this summer, playing a bunch of festivals including YNOT, Bristol Harbourside and Inglefest but to name a few.
We had a good old chinwag with singer/guitarist Hayley (who also works at Bristol’s Pirate Studios), to hear all about the birth of the electric tinged indie banger, Closer…
What was the inspiration behind your track?
Hearing so many disputes about religion and the purpose of life. Lyrically it’s inspired by this – two characters trying to convince each other of things, an ongoing dispute. Musically I think its inspired by everything we had taken in around us over the last couple of weeks. Tero melos, De staat and 60’s garage rock.
What did your songwriting process involve?
The track was born in the kitchen. It came from a casual musical jam, I then sculpted the narrative and the concept came suddenly.
What things do you do differently to other bands?
We have multiple writing processes depending on the track. We are all into so many different music types, and we spend the time really living with the songs we write.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Ambient, anthemic and feel good
Have you channeled any artist in particular on this track?
Not really, we sort of ran freely with it.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
Networking and being exposed to new perspectives and genres
What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
Keep writing and creating.
Whats next for Rozelle?
We have a single Crystalised that is going to be released soon… and a whole bunch of records for next year that we have produced. We are really excited to share them with everyone.
