Fusing experimental math rock with infectious pop, BIMM Brighton alumni Orchards are fast gaining a reputation as one of the country’s most exciting new bands.

Taking inspiration from the likes of FOALS and Everything Everything are band members Lucy, Daniel, Sam and Will who have mainstream success in their sights. Fortunately for them, they’ve got the full backing of a host of tastemakers, including BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson.

We recently sat down with Orchards the ambitious four-piece to talk all about the band’s recent success and how Tom Robinson became a fan. According to Dan, the chance meeting came while on tour.

“Dan and Lucy we’re guest performing for some live sessions at BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio X. After spending some time with Tom Robinson, he expressed an interest in our music and really loved our track ‘Honey’,” they told BIMM.

“He has now played our music twice on BBC Radio 6! It’s incredible and happened completely by chance! We are so grateful for the recent opportunities we have been given!”

Elsewhere, Orchards, who graduated from BIMM in 2015, have also been making plenty of noise in the music press, having gained much exposure in DIY Magazine.

“They picked up our last single “Honey” in their Neu Bulletin a few weeks before “Darling” was set to be released. So I guess when our PR person approached them for a premiere they were more than happy to do it,” they revealed.

“It introduced our music to people who read DIY which I guess is a demographic that we had just started to tap into through our tour. I think it gives your music that veneer of credibility; if DIY like it then they are a reliable source in the industry, so more people take notice and check it out.”

So, where can you catch Orchards this summer? The band will be playing shows at 2000 Trees near Cheltenham and have also been shortlisted to play the highly-anticipated TRUCK Festival in Steventon, Oxfordshire.

The band have also revealed they’ll be spending the next few months writing new material, including the follow-up to their latest single ‘Darling’ which you can hear here;
