Marius Bear wins ‘Best Talent’ at Swiss Music Awards

26 February, 2019

BIMM London graduate Marius Bear recently received a massive profile boost after scooping SRF 3 Radio’s ‘Best Talent’ prize at the Swiss Music Awards, 2019.

The singer-songwriter, who studied a Diploma in Music Production at BIMM London, prevailed in the face of stiff competition from fellow Swiss artists JulDem and KT Gorique, to receive a grand prize fund of CHF 10,000 (8,800 euros).

The artists battled-it-out for the award at the SRF 3 Best Talent Show, in which the three finalists demonstrated their skills on the live stage of the Anvil Ramp, Zurich.

Marius was later announced the victor at the Swiss Music Awards ceremony in the Culture and Congress Centre, Lucerne, before treating the crowd to a celebratory live performance.

“It was an unbelievable feeling playing in front of this packed Opera House and winning the Swiss Music Award for Best New Talent.”

“With this prize, I won 10’000 Swiss Francs. I already gave each of my musicians 1000 each, because without them it wouldn’t have happened. The rest of the money is going back into the band to help us in developing our thing.”

Originally hailing from the Swiss mountains, Marius’ journey into music began after enlisting as an officer in the Swiss army. A fellow soldier suggested he should consider singing professionally after hearing his distinctive and powerful cover version of “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Soon afterwards, Marius moved to London to begin his music production studies and hone his songwriting skill alongside other like-minded musicians and songwriters at BIMM.

Having secured management both in the UK and Switzerland during his time studying, Marius eventually teamed up with Dutch film music composer and producer Reyn Ouwehand for the creation of his stunning EP “Sanity“, the release of which was marked with an intimate performance at the Lock Tavern, London, in June 2018.

A huge well done to Marius in his success at the Swiss Music Awards. We’re sure it’s just the start of what will be an extremely positive year for the young artist.
