A new week means it’s time for Track of the Week. Listen now to BIMM Bristol‘s Louis Veillon and his latest release ‘Another You’.
Were there any particular music influences while you were writing?
I was listening to Petit Biscuit’s latest album and I was really inspired by how perfectly he conveys feelings within his music. Most of his songs have very upbeat instrumentals yet very sad lyrics, which I think creates a very interesting atmosphere. I tried to channel this and create a song with a similar vibe.
Is there anything you do to try and make your music stand out?
Before writing the song, I had come across a Youtube channel that did 80’s remixes of popular songs. I loved the vibe and feeling those sounds conveyed and was inspired to make 80’s inspired pop song myself.
How did your songwriting process work?
This song came to me very naturally at first. I heard the melody for the verse, pre-chorus and chorus all at once. I then recorded them in a Logic session and played some chords under them, and the whole structure was there. I then spent a long time focusing on the production and lyrics to create a simple yet funky pop-song.
Describe your sound in 3 words…
Funky, pop, and (because people have described it as such) French.
How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
My time at BIMM showed me that I could do anything I wanted within the music industry. It is through my various modules that I realised that I didn’t have to just be a guitar player. I could also be a singer-songwriter if I worked hard at it.
What’s your favourite thing about BIMM?
All the fantastic people and musicians I have met and worked with.
Anything exciting coming up you can share?
I will have a new single coming out during the summer, so stay tuned for this.
