BIMM Brighton alumna turned soul sensation; Jo Harman has made it onto BBC Radio 2’s coveted playlist with her spectacular new single, ‘When We Were Young’.
The track, a foot-stomping gospel number, has been receiving plenty of airplay including Robert Elms’ ‘Record of the Week’ on BBC Radio London.
‘When We Were Young’ also features a very special guest in ex-Doobie Brother and Steely Dan legend, Michael McDonald.
Speaking about the collaboration, the soul superstar said:
“It was my great privilege to work with Jo. Listening to her cover one of my songs was a spiritual experience.”
The news comes days after the release of Jo’s phenomenal second album, ‘People We Become’, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut ‘Dirt On My Tongue’.
Jo travelled to the iconic city of Nashville to record her sophomore album, working alongside revered producer Fred Mollin [Barbara Streisand, BB King, Carly Simon, Billy Joel].
2017 is certainly shaping up to be her year, with wide-spread praise and nods from the music press, as well as a special mention from the Mail on Sunday and the Daily Mirror.
The singer is due to embark on an exciting UK tour, with gigs planned in Cambridge, Leicester London, Manchester and more in February and March –full tour dates here.
Commenting on the talented musician’s success was Jo’s manager, Mark Eade:
“Jo has progressed in these short few years, from an open mic singer to an international recording and touring artist by hard work,” he quipped.
“A truly exceptional talent (the sheer depth and range of which is sometimes somewhat overlooked) and a loyal ‘word of mouth’ fan base.”
We’re immensely proud of Jo and her many achievements since leaving BIMM; she is an inspiration to all of our students.
