Following the success of its annual Entrepreneur Award launched in 2015, BIMM has decided to introduce a brand new accolade to support emerging talent – The BIMM Artist Award!
The prize for this latest award will be £5000, along with continued support and ongoing advice for the winner – including the chance to work in close collaboration with BIMM’s experienced artist development team. The winner will also benefit from a range of opportunities throughout 2017/18 including festival performances, recordings, photography, PR, promotional advice and more – depending on the artist’s needs.
The award is open to all artists/bands who have previously graduated from a BIMM College (or band members who have), and details on how to apply are available on the BIMM Alumni platform BIMM Connect. The winner will be selected from a shortlist by an industry panel of songwriters, musicians and top industry executives.
Overseeing The BIMM Artist Award is Julian Deane – Raygun Music and A&R consultant for the award.
“I’m delighted to be working with BIMM on this important award. The prize should go some way to addressing the industry-wide problem of how newer artists find it difficult to access upfront investment, which is needed to make their first positive steps into the real world music industry.
“Investment in early stage development has got tougher and tougher as the primary business model has shifted from CD to Downloads to Streaming over the last ten years. Whether it’s a single with a decent PR campaign behind it; a first tour; or getting into a proper studio, emerging artists need money, strategy and the right contacts and this is what we’re offering to those who we know have the potential to do well.”
Executive Principal Vaseema Hamilton adds:
“BIMM Institute is now well known in the music industry for its very successful alumni. We have graduates working throughout the music industry, as executives and performers, songwriters and Brit Award-winning artists – and we are proud of every single one! We also recognise how a financial investment can take them to the next level, so that’s why we’re pleased to launch this new award to support our talented alumni.”
The final deadline for entries to The BIMM Artist Award is Friday 31 March, and the winner will be announced on Friday 12 May.
