Black Honey - Midnight

Track of the Week

Monday is here, and down in Brighton we’re recovering from an amazing Pride weekend! But to keep the party going, Track of the Week this week comes from all conquering Brighton Alumni Black Honey with their latest single ‘Midnight.’

What was the inspiration behind this track?
Saturday Night Fever, Abba and my deepest darkest mischief.

What did your songwriting process involve?
A lot of dance routines, and trying to modernise a pretty dated concept.

What do you try and do differently, to make your sound stand out?
We cherry pick across a lot of genres, start by making something that isn’t a traditional route and see what we can claim as ours, through tone choices and lyrical narratives.

Describe your sound in 3 words…
Tarantino, Blondie, Pop.

Are there any particular artists that inspired you whilst writing the track?
Abba, Justice, The Bee Gees, Nancy Sinatra.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
The people who go there.

How has BIMM help you develop as an Artist?

It gave me the time to collect my ideas and really get stuck in deep with things that inspired me.

What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?

Don’t let anyone or anything come between you and you’re dreams. If you hear yourself saying out loud why you can’t do something then be the one to change it.

Anything else exciting coming up you can share?
Yeah we are so excited for our debut album dropping on the 21st of September (my birthday) the album is available to pre-order now in every format! We made some super special picture discs and coloured vinyl. Then we hit the road in October for our biggest headline tour to date!
