BIMM Students Nominated For Brit Awards

16 January, 2019

The 39th annual Brit Awards ceremony will be taking place at the O2 Arena, London on February 20th. And this year, three BIMM artists have received nominations for awards. Let’s take a look at the nominees for one of the most exciting annual events in the music industry calendar.

The Brits have been a key date for the UK’s music industry for decades, with many legendary performances, memorable acceptance speeches and A-list guests throughout the years. Which is why we’re thrilled to see a host of ex-BIMM students contending for awards this year. Here are the nominees.

Ella Mai

Grammy Award nominee and Ex-BIMM London vocal student Ella Mai had a fantastic 2018, which culminated in her signing a global record deal with Sony/ATV. Now, she’s in the running to receive the award for ‘British Breakthrough Act’ – her very first Brit Award nomination which comes in recognition of her massive success over in the U.S.

IDLES

Bristol punk rock quintet IDLES have had a spectacular 12 months, which saw them release two critically acclaimed albums – Brutalism & Joy As An Act Of Resistance – with the latter peaking at #2 in the official UK album chart. The band – which features BIMM Bristol alumnus Jon Beavis on drums and tutor Lee Kiernan on guitar – undertook a gruelling but hugely successful tour schedule which saw them perform sold out shows across the UK, Europe and the U.S. For a band whose creative vision is so raw and uncompromising, their break into the mainstream is a true phenomenon, which is why they too have earned a Brit Award nomination for ‘British Breakthrough Act’.

George Ezra

Ex-BIMM Bristol songwriting student George Ezra is nominated for ‘Best Male Solo Artist’, ‘Best British Single’ and ‘British Album of the Year’. All three nominations are in recognition of his sophomore LP ‘Staying At Tamara’s’, which scooped the number one spot on the UK album charts in 2018; going twice Platinum and earning him the title of ‘Music Week’s Artist Of The Year, 2018‘.

We wish all of the nominees the very best of luck at the Brit Awards 2019! Be sure to tune in to the live television broadcast on February 20th.
