BIMM Live to Descend on Manchester
Home to some of Manchester’s best live venues and bars, the historic stretch that is Oldham Street in city’s Northern Quarter is a must for fans of all music genres. With that in mind, we can’t think of a better place to host this year’s instalment of BIMM Live, where we will be toasting our BIMM Class of 2018 on June 21.
BIMM Live will see no fewer than 33 bands and DJs descend on four Oldham Street venues later this month, including Gullivers, the Castle Hotel, Night and Day Cafe and The Crafty Pig, which are located within minutes of each other. But what’s most exciting about this year’s event is that it will be run entirely by BIMM students for the wider community, who will be able to collect free wristbands from the upstairs of Gullivers at 2 pm on the day of the event.
Brogan Main is the founder of Top of the Hill, a Manchester-based Events & Promotions company, which will be hosting a stage at Gullivers for BIMM Live. Top of the Hill champions local talent and works with an eclectic range of acts and genres. True to her word, she will be putting on a mix of established and lesser-known artists including Carl North, Mister Twisted, Felicia Eliza, The Navettes, Leviathans, Olly Flavell and Waywell.
Brogan, whose promotions company has just expanded to Liverpool and Belfast after recently celebrating its first birthday, spoke to BIMM ahead of the all-day party. She said:
“This summer, we’ve been lucky enough to be a part of two of Manchester’s biggest festivals, Dot to Dot and Sounds From The Other City – our next stop is BIMM Live!”
Also joining forces with Brogan for BIMM Live is Paul Bennett, who recently decided to pursue his passion after a 20-year career in engineering. Paul’s newly established management and photography company, the aptly-named Manchester Midweek Music Club, will take over The Crafty Pig at the foot of Oldham Street with Jamie Ferguson, Kate Anita, Shantelle King, Alannah Lee, Bethany Anslow Johnson, Adam Ost and Summer Haze.
BIMM Live wouldn’t be complete without Eleanor Walton and Ella Shepherd, who studied Music Business at BIMM, and Emma Breckill, who studied audio engineering and production at another university (Futureworks). The trio started Kotodama Promotions over a year ago as a hobby before going on to work with grassroots venues in Manchester where they have showcased a broad offering of alternative artists. They will run the Night & Day stage, with Patrick Mcdonagh, Saber Cruzer, Hover Bored, Ambiere, Solis and Maddy Storm supplying the musical talent.
