Renowned musicians, acclaimed songwriters and industry legends make up our network of inspiring tutors and staff. That’s because BIMM have long held a reputation for attracting the best in the business, and it’s this commitment that sets us apart from other institutions.
With this in mind, it gives us great pleasure to announce that industry veteran Sarah Kucher will become BIMM Hamburg’s first college manager when the state-of-the-art college opens this year.
Sarah is a name that needs little introduction for most around Hamburg and – in particular – the cosmopolitan district of St Pauli, which will host our eighth college. That’s because the highly ambitious music and events industry insider has spent more than 15 years involved with Hamburg’s thriving and historic music scene in various roles. It was here on Hamburger Berg – a stone’s throw from the iconic Reeperbahn – that Sarah opened her own venue, NACHTLAGER, aged just 21 – making her one of the city’s youngest club owners.
Since that time she has built up an endless list of contacts in the business, with connections that will benefit each of our prospective students – all of whom will be expected to jump head first into the stunning port city’s creative scene. Sarah is also well travelled. She spent time in New Orleans where she worked on countless variety shows and live productions. But the allure of Hamburg brought her back, where she has since been booking bands and lending her support to Nochtspeicher – just one of the city’s many exciting new music venues.
Speaking to BIMM Hamburg about her passion for music and advice to prospective students, Sarah said: “Talent is a rare gift you can’t learn; but you can learn how to nurture it, channel it and first and foremost how to protect it.”
And what of Hamburg – her home and a city with an acclaimed reputation for music that stretches back to The Beatles. “Hamburg is steeped in music,” she explains, “without music, there is no culture anywhere. The city is the perfect destination for aspiring musicians and anyone with dreams of making it in the business. I can’t wait to welcome and inspire a new generation at BIMM Hamburg.”
Reflecting on Sarah’s appointment, Nick Donovan – College Principal of BIMM Germany, added: “It is with great excitement and pride that we welcome Sarah Kucher to the BIMM Group, our newest college and the broader Hamburg project. I can think of no-one better to head up our second BIMM Germany college as Sarah brings integral knowledge of the contemporary music business, connectivity to the local scene in Hamburg and specialist insight into the German music industry within the context of Europe and internationally. I look forward to working with her in connecting the Berlin and Hamburg colleges to share knowledge, talent and opportunities for the further enrichment of our student experience here in Germany.”
So, what can students expect? Leading the Hamburg project is Vaseema Hamilton, our Business Development & Creative Careers Director, who said: “We’re thrilled to have found a home right in the heart of the city, which we know our students will love. It’s a great destination with fantastic connections to the rest of Hamburg and the rest of Germany. Having worked with our friends and colleagues in Berlin, we realised that there are so many connections and creative links between Berlin and Hamburg in the current music industry.”
BIMM Hamburg will offer industry-led degree and diploma courses – all taught in English – to inspire a new generation of artists and music professionals throughout Germany and beyond. These will include a full three-year BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship – Guitar, Bass, Drums, Songwriting, Vocals – Music Business and Production, along with a one-year intensive Diploma in Guitar, Bass, Drums, Guitar, Songwriting, Production and Music Business.
