BIMM Bristol will be creating a new generation of musicians in the South West by launching two new diploma courses.
Starting in September 2018, the ‘Artist Development Diploma in Music Performance‘ and ‘Artist Development Diploma in Songwriting‘ will both be ideal precursors to a degree course at one of our eight BIMM colleges.
The two-year diploma courses are available to students aged 16-18 who have five GCSEs at A/9-4/C – including English and Maths – designed for anyone with an interest in music.
Steve Lawson BIMM Bristol’s College Principal: “It’s an exciting new chapter for us and another opportunity for young people in the South West. Bristol is a creative, thriving music city – we look forward to welcoming diploma students here in September.”
So, why study for a diploma at BIMM? We can think of more than a few reasons, such as our esteemed reputation for producing stars like Bristol alumni George Ezra, who has just shot straight to the top of the album charts with his latest LP Staying At Tamara’s. In addition, BIMM students get all the support they need to pursue a dream career in the music industry, with numerous extracurricular opportunities on offer.
But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what some of our diploma students from our other colleges had to say:
“We’re being taught by industry professionals who have a lot of knowledge in the ‘reality’ of the music industry, preparing us for how tough it is to break-through,” explains diploma student Paris Gibson. “A standout moment so far during my three months on the BIMM diploma is the 1st end of term gig BIMM organised for us to do with our bands at the Latest Music Bar in Brighton.”
Songwriter Martha Phillips chose to study for her BIMM diploma at 16 after looking for an alternative to college; she said: “It just seemed like the only option after high school. I wasn’t ready to start touring the country at 16, so coming to a music college that’s so focused on getting you ready for the real world at a young age was like a dream come true.”
Designed by industry professionals and experienced music tutors, a BIMM Diploma is intended to develop artists from all backgrounds with the skills and expertise required to perform and find work in the industry they love. BIMM’s first-rate connections to the music industry are just one of the reasons so many choose to study with us.
Songwriting diploma student Kelly Northorpe is another of our many success stories. “It was a challenge but one that I thrived on. I knew that I could sing well, but BIMM made me realise how little I knew. I learnt music theory, how to sight read, what makes a good ‘rock’ recording voice, and how that differs from a ‘country’ song. The course made me develop into a better version of myself, both in my talents and my knowledge. Most importantly, it introduced me to the world of music business, one that I did not know existed and one that I now work in.”
