19 March, 2019

The Birmingham Music Awards (BMA’s) will soon be celebrating the work of key individuals for their contribution to the city’s vibrant music scene. This year’s event sees both students and lecturers from BIMM receiving nominations for their excellent work.

Set in the heart of Digbeth, just a short walk from the BIMM Birmingham campus, the BMA’s will take place on Thursday 16th May at Trinity Street’s stunning new live music venue, The Mill.

The red carpet event isn’t just for performers either. Industry professionals such as music producers, promoters, managers, businesses, educators and retailers have received nominations for their contributions to both the local music economy and the wider music industry.

This year, ambient pop duo and current BIMM Birmingham students Hunger Moon are shortlisted for this year’s ‘Rising Star Award‘ alongside fellow student and electronic artist The NU, songwriter Ellisha Green, vocalist Rhianna Keane and BIMM graduate singer-songwriter Joe Dolman.

Last year’s ‘Best Alternative Band’ winners Sugarthief (featuring BIMM Birmingham performance student Reece Downton) received a nomination for ‘Best Band‘ and local radio broadcaster, journalist and BIMM Birmingham Lecturer & Staples presenter Danny DeReybekill is up for the ‘Best Radio Presenter‘ award. Current student Stella is also up for ‘Best Pop Act’.

BIMM Birmingham tutor Jonny Amos is also up for an award in the form of ‘Best tutor/mentor’ as well as the campus’ Applicant Experience Manager Harry Jordan being shortlisted for ‘Best Female‘ alongside the likes of Jorja Smith and Lady Leshurr.

And that’s not all! The BIMM Blog has also received a nomination for ‘Best Mag/Vlog/Blog’ for its work championing the Birmingham Music Scene with regular series posts such as ‘Local Heroes’, ‘City Guides’ and BIMM student profiles.

To top it off, BIMM Birmingham itself has been nominated in the category for ‘Best Education Provider‘, for which we’re incredibly grateful.

The ceremony will also be presenting awards in categories such as;

Best Band, Best Female, Best Male, Brum Bastion, Best Video, Best Song, Best producer, Best Community Project, Best Promoter, Best DJ, Best Club Night, Best Music Business, Best entrepreneur and the Lifetime Achievement award.

We wish all the nominees the very best of luck! For more info see the official Birmingham Music Awards Website.
