Masterclasses at BIMM: Production

9 May, 2018

George Martin and the Beatles, Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, Rick Rubin and the Beastie Boys, Steve Albini and Pixies. These collaborations exemplify the pivotal effect a Music Producer can have on an artist’s sound and career trajectory. For decades, the relationship between artist and producer has fascinated and inspired; the producer’s role being a muse to the artist’s cause. These days, however, the role of a producer is a very different prospect.

In the last decade and a half, thanks to a rise in affordable technology and an increased desire for creative control of a final music product, the line separating the artist and producer has become less defined. Artists like FKA Twigs, Grimes, Flying Lotus and Jack Garratt have famously produced their own material almost entirely independently. And producers such as Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Lone and Joker are blazing trails with their own original material alongside collaborations with some of the industry’s biggest headline acts. It’s this sort of self-sufficiency and entrepreneurialism which is instilled into our Music Production students whilst studying at BIMM.

Aside from benefiting from a rich and varied selection of course content, our production students also benefit from a roster of masterclass guests, whose visits to our various campuses reveal industry advice, hints and tips from some of the biggest talents in the industry.

Check out this shortlist of some our most popular production-themed Masterclasses from the past few years.
