Andrew Garfoot

Industry Placements and Careers Officer

Andrew is the Industry Placements and Careers Officer at BIMM Music Institute Manchester. He provides one-to-one tutorials to discuss all aspects of career development in the music industry and delivers workshops and in-class sessions on employability and professional development.

He is also the Module Leader for the second year Engaging with Industry module for Music Business students.

Andrew graduated with distinction from Edinburgh Napier University’s PGDip Careers Guidance and Development course in 2012, having previously gained a Masters degree in Historical Research from the University of Sheffield. His development as a careers advisor started in the supported employment sector where he helped individuals with autism into employment and raised employer awareness of their responsibility to provide equal opportunities in recruitment.

He continued to work with individuals with significant barriers to employment upon moving to Manchester in 2014, before fulfilling his career ambition and moving into Higher Education guidance – first at Manchester Metropolitan University and now as Industry Placements and Careers Officer for BIMM Manchester.

Andrew is able to combine his significant career guidance experience and labour market studies with his love and knowledge of music. Creative careers formed the basis of Andrew’s Postgraduate research, and being surrounded by music industry professionals and enthusiastic students at BIMM is further developing his knowledge and experience in this area.
