Ambient, harmonic beauties Wild Front have released a cracking new single!
If you had attended any of BIMM’s associated festivals this year you would have had the pleasure of watching them live. You may have also been lucky enough to hear their new single ‘Rico’ live too!
We caught up with front man Jack to ask him about the enchanting new track and how ‘Rico’ came about…
What was the inspiration behind your track?
The track is about a girl I know who went through a bit of a tough time and we used to go driving together late at night to chill out.
What did your songwriting process involve?
I remember writing most of it on a walk home from the station. We had already managed to get most of the track done as a band and the melody and lyrics just came on the walk home!
What things do you do differently to other bands?
I guess something we do that not all bands can do is self produce and record everything. We have our own studio set up which is so sick because it means we can just spend as long as we like on things and our guitarist is a producer day to day so that’s pretty handy. Very lucky :)
Can you describe your sound in three words?
funky, mellow and riffy
Have you channeled any artist in particular on this track?
Not intentionally! Rico is quite different to how we normally write. It just kinda fell out in terms of its sound and the production.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
I think one of the things that sets BIMM apart from other uni’s I could have gone to is that I feel so supported by them with this band. They have already (just in the first year I’ve been there) given me so many opportunities to play at decent festivals and give us some decent press.
What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
Don’t force it or push it too hard. That’s when things start to sound wrong or just not like your usual sound. I’ve found it to be entirely true.
Whats next for Wild Front?
We’re releasing a single every month for a little while with an aim to maybe put an EP out at the end. We’re also supporting Dagney at patterns on the 24th of October
