Chris J. Nairn is a songwriter, composer and producer who has built a successful career creating original commercial and orchestral music for a diverse range of industries. He is also a graduate of BIMM Brighton, and in October he made a welcome return to the college to deliver a Masterclass to the new BIMM undergraduates who are following in his wake.
In the ten years since Chris graduated in Commercial Songwriting from BIMM he has produced music for high profile clients such as Superdry, Gordon Ramsay and Sony. His tastes and talents are eclectic, and Chris also write pop music for the enormous J-Pop and K-Popmarkets, theme songs for American TV and original scores for the gaming industry.
In his Masterclass, Chris touched on the many different aspects of his career, and recalled his days playing with his former band MiMi Soya, who performed at Wembley Stadium and toured extensively. Chris also spoke about the ways that his BIMM experiences helped him to build the skills and career he has today.
Host Rachel Mosleh, BIMM Alumni Manager, said:
“It was great to have Chris back at BIMM as a music industry guest, he has had such a varied career that he had a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with the students as well as some very amusing tour stories!”
Chris himself said:
“It was great to see how far BIMM has come in the past ten years. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing my experiences with all the new students and having a chance to sign the Hall of Fame!”
We are always proud of our BIMM alumni and we know that for our students, meeting people like Chris illustrated the breadth of careers available to them in the music world. We hope they all left feeling inspired to persevere with their own music dreams and perhaps even come back and tell us about it in ten years!
