Last week some world class artists descended upon the West Country for one of the region’s most celebrated music events, the Bristol Summer Series 2016 – where four lucky BIMM Bristol students were given the work experience opportunity of a lifetime!
This year’s highly-anticipated event featured headline performances from the brilliant Sigur Rós, Catfish And The Bottlemen, The Last Shadow Puppets and, our personal favourite, BIMM Brighton alumnus James Bay, who set the Lloyd’s Amphitheatre alight with a triumphant set of hits. James isn’t the only musician to have flown the flag for BIMM at the Summer Series. Last year, thousands of adoring fans flocked to the open-air venue for BIMM Bristol graduate, George Ezra.
Of course, The Bristol Summer Series could not be possible if it wasn’t for the hundreds of dedicated staff who work behind the scenes. Joining the team were BIMM Bristol students Trefan Jay Taylor (BA1 Music Industry Management), Jake Chisholm (BA1 Music Industry Management), Rhiannon Jones (Professional Musicianship graduate), who all worked within the Artist Liaison team, and Ben Richards (BA2 Music Industry Management) who took on the enormous responsibility of stage manager assistant. The team were highly professional and played a massive part in making this year’s Summer Series the best yet. Our students worked under pressure and proved they had what it takes. As a result of their outstanding efforts, the 5000 capacity event went off without a hitch.
We caught up with Trefan after the event to get his thoughts on the experience and find out a little more about what it’s like to rub shoulders backstage with some of the world’s biggest artists:
BIMM Bristol has a continuing professional relationship with the team behind the Summer Series. Our Head of Music Industry and Artist Development Mark Bowers helped set up and promote the festival when it began two years ago. This amazing experience was made possible by BIMM’s close links with the music industry. As a result, our students have picked up valuable event management skills. The event will also look fantastic on their CV.
Huge thanks to our students for all their hard work, and for representing BIMM at The Bristol Summer Series. We’re already looking forward to next year’s shows!
