SIMON DAVIS FINDS SUCCESS IN SINGAPORE

EMPLOYABILITY

BIMM Brighton graduate Simon Davis has found great success in Singapore as the founder and CEO of Mighty Bear Games.

His company recently acquired over $1 Million in pre-seed funding from outside investors Global Founders Capital, Skycatcher and RocketInternet – a figure made doubly impressive by the fact Mighty Bear was newly formed in November 2016 and their first major gaming venture is still in development.

This incredible show of confidence from investors is testament to Davies’ impressive career trajectory as well as the credentials of the eight-man team he has built, which boasts more than 50 years of combined experience at companies such as King, Ubisoft, EA, Disney, Jagex, Nvidia, and other big names in the gaming scene.

Simon has obviously come a long way since his days of studying a BA Hons in Professional Musicianship – Guitar at BIMM. But he still remembers his student days well. He explains how his developmental studies at BIMM helped him get where he is today.

“I learned a great deal on the degree, particularly from BIMM Brighton Music Business course leader Jon Stewart. I can genuinely say that learning from him changed my life by affecting the way I approached work in terms of focus, attention to detail (especially their whole “OK is not OK” mentality) and generally getting the job done with no excuses.”

“That mindset is the reason I got a first on my degree and the same reason that since leaving BIMM my career has had a (mostly) positive trajectory. There were some setbacks but that approach gave me the tools I need to do the right thing. I can honestly say that I probably wouldn’t be CEO of an investor-funded games studio if I hadn’t gone to BIMM and studied with them.”

Jon Stewart remembers Simon well and had this to say about him.

Simon was a truly fantastic student to teach. He had great attendance and was always willing to go the extra mile. He was also a very original thinker and willing to adapt, improvise, and take risks – which is partly why he ended up in games rather than music. I’m really proud to have known Simon as a student and delighted that he’s kept in touch. This investment is a major achievement and I’m sure he’ll make a great success of it.”

We wish Simon every success for the future and will be sure to keep a keen eye on his progress with Mighty Bear and beyond.
