Most artists dream of scoring a number one album. But for Prague-born singer-songwriter and BIMM London graduate, Lenny that dream has just become a reality.
The multi-talented singer and pianist, who graduated from BIMM with a BA in Songwriting, has topped the album charts in her native Czech Republic with her superb debut LP ‘Hearts’, beating Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and The Beatles to the top spot!
Lenny – real name Lenka Filipová – took to Instagram to share the fantastic news, posting a picture of the charts with the caption: “Come again…?” The ever modest Lenny thanked her fans and explained that she’s staying grounded, despite this incredible feat, as she told BIMM:
“Convincing a major label to believe in your project and then having it released as a piece of art that you’ve been working so hard on for such a long time is quite a small achievement on its own. However, nothing feels quite like when your fans send your music all the way up to the top of the charts! I still stay very much grounded because there’s always so much stuff you can work on to grow even more, but this definitely is a great motivation. I feel very blessed to be able to share my music with people on this level. ”
Lenny’s glittering music career has got off to an incredible start, with a coveted record deal with Universal Music, two critically-acclaimed EPs and a Czech Grammy Award. Since leaving BIMM, the singer has gone on to wow audiences around the world with a host of performances and festival appearances, including a supporting tour with none other than R&B superstar Macy Gray:
“While studying at BIMM, I was amongst so much talent on a daily basis, and I got the opportunity to work with so many inspiring people. I took advice from the best while having just enough creative freedom to develop my own sound. BIMM has played a fundamental part in this period of my life and contributed majorly to the musician and songwriter I am now.”
Lenny began performing at the tender age of sixteen with her mother – another famed Czech singer. She is back on the road to promote her album with a string of shows around the Czech Republic.
We’ve been blown away by the news of Lenny’s immense success; her hard work really has paid off, and we wish her all the best for the future.
‘Hearts’ is out now on Universal Music.
