Playing Bass for Turin Brakes

Tutor News

In January 2016 Turin Brakes released their seventh studio album, entitled Lost Property.

Their latest single Keep Me Around is the most played song on BBC Radio 2 and currently sits at number 40 in the national airplay charts.

Since first forming in 1999, Turin Brakes have moved from their early ‘new acoustic movement’ roots and have followed a unique evolution of sound with every album. In the process, the band have sold over a million records and played to audiences all around the world.

The core members of Turin Brakes are Olly Knights, Gale Paridjanian, Rob Allum and Eddie Myer. As well as his long-time role as Turin Brakes’ bassist and co-songwriter, Eddie is also a solo artist, jazz aficionado, and Bass Tutor at BIMM Brighton:

“Being a tutor at BIMM has become a big part of what I do in music. It makes me constantly assess what I’m doing so that I can pass on whatever I learn. Plus, I always find my students have a lot to tell me about what’s going on with the next generation. It’s a two-way street that feeds into my creativity. Music is a journey, keep your ears open and the learning never stops!

Eddie is an accomplished, self-taught, experimental musician and writer with a vast musical knowledge, all of which makes him an ideal BIMM tutor. From dance influences to twenty-first century jazz to the signature powerful bass sound that anchors so much of Turin Brakes’ music, Eddie is always at the helm with his enthusiasm and creativity.

Sixteen years of touring has certainly turned Turin Brakes into a live force to be reckoned with.

They will set out on tour for their new album in March so don’t miss out on an excellent opportunity to see Eddie performing live with his formidable bass skills.
