Jojo Mayer Masterclass

Our students were given an exclusive masterclass from legendary Jojo Mayer as he popped in to check out BIMM London’s brand-new drum facilities in Fulham.

Mayer, who has played with Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simone, was joined on the visit by UK drum guru Mike Dolbear and acclaimed American session drummer Russ Miller, who has worked with Cher, Ray Charles, Nelly Furtado and Tina Turner. Joe Testa, director of artistic relations at Vic Firth, was also there to celebrate BIMM London’s 31 years of world-class drum tuition.

After touring the five dedicated drum-practice rooms, three drum-teaching rooms and three large live-performance rooms, Jojo made the short journey to Black Velvet Club in West Kensington to give a brilliant masterclass for our students.

In front of a crowd of 280, Jojo showcased his unique blend of drum and bass, jazz and jungle grooves before taking questions from the floor and offering his personal insight and tips about groove, sound, techniques and musicianship.
