If you’ve been keeping an eye on the BBC’s Euro 2016 coverage, you’ve probably heard BIMM London graduate Izzy Bizu’s sweet and soulful voice.
The singer has lent her vocal talents to the BBC Euro 2016 intro titles, and the result is spectacular.
The song itself is a cover of Edith Piaf’s beautiful ‘La Foule’ – apt as this year’s competition is being held in France.
Despite the song’s complex arrangement, Izzy sings note-perfect, showcasing her incredible vocal range.
Her rendition of Piaf’s 1957 ode to love at first sight has blown us away. She recorded with the world-renowned BBC Concert Orchestra and acclaimed soundtrack producer Ian Barter.
Izzy spoke to BBC Introducing Manchester about the track after her performance at this year’s Parklife Festival.
“I’m very excited about Euro 2016, which we did the theme song for. So yeah, I’m very happy to see the games,” she grinned.
Since graduating from BIMM London in 2012 with a Diploma in Vocals, Izzy has gone on to achieve incredible things. In 2013, she won the iluvlive open mic competition and released an independent EP, which sold over 50,000 copies – an unimaginable feat for any new artist!
Izzy started to receive further recognition when Zane Lowe championed her lead single ‘White Tiger’ on his then BBC Radio 1 show, selecting it as his ‘Next Hype’ record. The hype around both the record and Izzy continued long after, with the singer supporting both Sam Smith and Jamie Cullum on their respective tours.
Next followed a BBC Introducing slot at Glastonbury 2014, which lead to her signing a deal with the iconic Epic Records label (Olly Murs, Alexandra Burke, Example, Paloma Faith).
2015 brought with it even more success for Izzy, with a performance on Jools Holland and supporting slots for both Rudimental and Foxes on their UK tours.
On top of this, the singer was shortlisted for the Brits Critics’ Choice Award, narrowly missing out to BIMM Brighton graduate James Bay.
2016 is set to be an even bigger year for Izzy, with her debut album ‘A Moment of Madness’ due for release this September.
The singer is also preparing for a headline show at London’s KOKO and a string of festival appearances, including Glastonbury, T In The Park, Secret Garden Party, Lovebox and Bestival.
We wish Izzy the best of luck with her upcoming shows and the album! You can listen to the BBC Euro 2016 intro theme below.
