The Imelda May Scholarship

22 January, 2015

BIMM Dublin is thrilled to introduce ‘The Imelda May Scholarship’ which covers the course fees of the four-year BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music for one lucky student. Open to new applicants who apply through the CAO before 1st February 2015, it covers every discipline – Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals and Songwriting – and is worth a total of €12,000 spread over a four-year period.

The scholarship has been named after the hugely successful Dublin born and raised rockabilly singer-songwriter, Imelda May, who has long been a supporter of BIMM Dublin and believes the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music to be one of the best music college courses in Dublin.

Imelda visited BIMM Dublin students back in May 2014 with her guitarist husband, Darrel Higham, for an exclusive Masterclass at our campus in The Coombe. Imelda and Darrel spoke about their careers to date, which have included releasing three Irish No.1 albums, sharing stages with the likes of Scissor Sisters, Elton John, Bono, Dionne Warwick and Elvis Costello, appearing on TV shows including Later… with Jools Holland, The Graham Norton Show, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, winning ‘Best Female Artist’ at the 2009 Meteor Awards, and performing alongside Jeff Beck at the Grammy Awards.

The Liberties singer has nothing but praise for BIMM, which she believes to be one of the most prestigious music colleges in Ireland: “I suggested that a scholarship, if possible, would really benefit someone who is having a hard time but is of great talent and has the potential to fly with the right help, encouragement and learning provided by BIMM. I am extremely flattered that they would like to put my name to this scholarship and am excited to help begin this opportunity for some very talented person who needs it.”

The BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music course, validated by DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology), is a specialist performance programme designed for those wishing to pursue a career in a range of music industry roles, such as solo performer, band member, session musician or songwriter.

To be in with a chance to receive The Imelda May Scholarship, students must apply for the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music before the 1st February CAO deadline. Once your application has been received, BIMM Dublin will contact you with details of your audition. If you’re successful and are offered a place on the course, you can then apply for The Imelda May Scholarship in May.
