If like BIMM you’ve spent the last few weekends skipping nights out to watch BBC One’s Pitch Battle, it’s likely you’ll be as excited as we are for this Saturday’s showdown. However, you might not be aware that singing on stage with the legendary Jermaine Jackson will be none other than BIMM alumna, Kedma Macias.
Kedma, who graduated from BIMM three years ago, has sung her way to the final as a member of last week’s wildcard act, Sgarmes.
The Welsh choir will need to have their A-game on to beat fellow finalists All The King’s Men (Bebe Rexha), Portsmouth University Gospel Choir (Seal), and Tring Park 16 (Nick Jonas).
Away from the final, the first-ever series of Pitch Battle also featured a whole host of BIMM alumni. Making their grand debut were two immensely talented BIMM choirs, Songbird Sessions and Vocalities.
Songbird Sessions is led by BIMM’s Deputy Head of Vocals Kelly Fraser, co-director Gemma Knight Jones, alumna Cas and current students Gabriella and Ruby. The group shone on national TV before sadly bowing out in the third instalment.
Elsewhere, Vocalities – who are fronted BIMM singers Kerli Peetsalu and Megan Alice Ward – also features recently departed graduates, Kamilé Dambrauskaite, Carina Erlandsen, Anne Roalkvam, Carlota Rocchi, and Ludovica Aprile.
Vocalities narrowly missed out on a place in the final after going out in the fifth episode. Nevertheless, they didn’t go down without a fight! Reflecting on their time on the hugely popular BBC One show, the London-based songstresses spoke of the ‘amazing’ experience of being involved with Pitch Battle.
“We got to work with wonderful and talented people and see how a big prime time BBC show is done. The production team were just incredible and made us feel so welcome,” they told BIMM.
“It was great getting to know the other groups and share the stage with them. We made a lot of new friends, and we are so thankful for this opportunity.”
So, what does the future hold for Vocalities? The choir have recently expanded and are currently available for backing vocals, duo performances, live performances and recording sessions.
With a host of shows at iconic venues like The Half Moon in Putney, the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, and the O2 Academy Islington under their belt already, we doubt it’ll be long before we see them battling it out again in season 2.

In the meantime, we wish Kedma and Sgarmes the very best of luck in the final, and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both Vocalities and Songbird Sessions for getting so far in the show!
We have been entertained and amazed by the sheer amount of hard work, practice and talent that has gone into both of their performances – they have been an inspiration for all of us here!
