Frida Touray on Tour with Lianne La Havas/Coldplay

25 July, 2016

A little while ago we were excited to share an action-packed post, updating you on the activities of one of our gifted BIMM London alumna, young vocalist Frida Touray. We thought it was high time we checked in on Frida again, and it turns out there’s plenty for us to write about!

Since graduating from her BMus course just a couple of years ago, Frida hit the ground running with her singing career. Last year she began performing backing vocals for the amazing Lianne La Havas (check out Lianne’s selfie with Frida!). Since then, Lianne and her band landed the coveted support slot with one of the biggest bands in the world – Coldplay, which means there’s been no shortage of live outings for Frida on some huge stages around the world.

When she’s having a break from working with Lianne, Frida also has her very own band to front by the name of Native Dancer, who perform a fusion of electro/trip-hop/jazz/psychedelic soul

Native Dancer have built a significant following in the three years they’ve been playing together – with their line-up of vocals, bass, keys, sax and drums – winning over critics and audiences alike. Frida leads the London five-piece with her sophisticated and joyful vocal style and the band’s excellent live reputation recently earned them a gig at the Love Supreme Festival, where coincidentally Lianne La Havas was also on the bill – making for one very busy festival outing for Frida!

Still to come this month for Native Dancer is a gig at the famous WOMAD Festival, where they’ll take to the stage at Charlton Park this Friday 29 July – no doubt wowing yet more new audiences. We wish Frida and the guys the best of luck with the gig, and who knows where we’ll find Frida on our next update, we can’t wait to find out…!
