Earlier this year, legendary trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack played their hometown of Bristol for one of the most highly anticipated concerts of the year. The show marked the group’s first Bristol appearance for eleven years and was certainly worth the wait, especially for four very lucky BIMM Bristol students who were invited to work backstage at the event.
BA2 students Josie Barrett, Jazz Cooper, Charlie Hawkins and Zak Christie, experienced this incredible opportunity, after receiving positive feedback from past placements – after all, this wasn’t just any gig! Aside from Massive Attack, there were also tremendous performances from Primal Scream, Savages, Young Fathers, Skepta and Tricky.
Our team of talented students all played an instrumental role in the show’s success. Josie and Jazz helped out with the stage management team, while Zak and Charlie assisted the promotions manager.
Jazz (BA2 Music Industry Management), who was working with the artist liaison team, impressed so much that she’s been offered a paid role at another festival. On top of this, her team also received high praise from none other than Primal Scream! Speaking to BIMM after the event, she said:
“Primal Scream came into the office and said how well they’d been looked after and how impressed they were with the liaison team, which made the head of artist liaison very happy and when I left she offered me a paid role at another festival in October! Which is great!”
Jazz wasn’t the only BIMM Bristol student to catch the attention of her managers. Zak (BA2 Songwriting) is also hoping to get a second call-up from the stage management team.
“I had a great time! We had to put some posters up all around the site, and we finished the work before the event started, so we had the whole day to enjoy the festival which was fun,” he told BIMM.
Congratulations to Josie, Jazz, Charlie and Zak, who all did an excellent job!
