The rumours are true; BIMM is officially opening a new college in the UK’s fastest growing music city – Birmingham!
On Saturday 21 January, we’ll be hosting an Open Day for the latest addition to our ever-expanding group of music colleges. The £4M state-of-the-art music college, which will be situated in Digbeth, the city’s buzzing creative hub, and will open its doors to students this October 2017.
The Open Day itself will take place just a stone’s throw from our new college at The Custard Factory on Gibb Street.
In true BIMM fashion, there will be music from a host of brilliant BIMM bands, along with presentations and special guests. We’ll also be teasing announcements about the plans for our new BIMM Birmingham campus in Digbeth, which have so far been kept under wraps.
On top of this, there will be the chance for potential students and their families to speak with BIMM staff and tutors about taking the first step to an exciting career in music.
BIMM is the largest and leading music education specialist in Europe. We’re continually expanding and believe Birmingham’s growing reputation as a creative city is the perfect destination for a brand new BIMM college.
BIMM Birmingham will have close ties with our existing colleges in Brighton, London, Manchester, Bristol, Dublin and Berlin. The new college will employ 50+ local music professionals, who’ll be guiding and inspiring students from their years of experience in the music industry.
Dara Kilkenny takes on the role of Executive Principal for BIMM Birmingham (in addition to BIMM Manchester and BIMM Dublin) and will be addressing the audience and answering questions. Speaking about our exciting move to the city, Dara said:
“It made total sense for BIMM to have a college in this vibrant city. It has been my privilege to have helped many creative individuals embark on their careers at BIMM Manchester and BIMM Dublin, so I’m looking forward to doing the same in Birmingham!”
As with all of our BIMM colleges, students will be given a chance to attend engaging Masterclasses and valuable industry events, with unparalleled access to an array of notable music industry movers and shakers.
Past guests include: BIMM patron, Roger Daltrey, Laura Mvula, Guy Garvey (Elbow), The Edge (U2), Ed O’Brien (Radiohead), Chuck D (Public Enemy), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Hozier…as well as Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis and Creation Records founder, Alan McGee…
There really is no limit to where an education at BIMM can take students. Our growing alumni network has seen past students excel in all areas of the music industry, from producers and festival co-coordinators to chart-topping musicians like James Bay, Tom Odell and Izzy Bizu.
As part of the award-winning BIMM Group, BIMM Birmingham will offer degree courses only: BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship – Drums, Bass, Guitar, Vocals and Songwriting. There will also be BA (Hons) degree courses in Music Production and Music Business.
