Think you know everything there is to know about Europe’s largest and leading contemporary music college? Well, we’ve got a few secrets up our sleeve! Here are five things we bet you didn’t know about BIMM.
1. We get you work while you study
Thanks to BIMM’s unique Commercial Performance Programme, we help qualifying students get paid performance work with our network of private entertainment agencies and session fixers. We make this happen due to our long-standing partnerships with leading agencies who specialise in private entertainment, so you can be hired as a solo musician or band to perform at anything from weddings and corporate events through to cruises, overseas hotel residencies and as session musicians. Many of our students have at least one or two gigs a week and receive competitive performance fees of around £200+ per musician per gig. To date, BIMM students have earned over £1,000,000 in gig fees – it’s the best paid student job ever!
2. We offer music’s coolest study exchange
From October 2017 onwards, BIMM students will be able to complete music degrees across two BIMM colleges, with the option to study in two European cities where music matters most: London, Berlin, Brighton, Manchester, Bristol or Birmingham*. You can begin your studies at one BIMM college, before transferring to another BIMM college for your second year, and then decide whether you remain in your new city for your third year or return to your ‘home’ college. Being able to study across multiple BIMM locations means the exposure and experience you’ll get by being part of two varying music scenes, and the subsequent industry contacts and musical networking opportunities you’ll gain in each city, will be second to none. BIMM is the only music college of its kind to offer this incredible study exchange and it’s a truly unique opportunity for future BIMM students.
3. We’ll help you get a career in the music industry
Every single thing we do at BIMM is focused on helping you obtain a successful and sustainable long-term music business career. And our hands-on real-world approach is clearly working, because the figures speak for themselves – 77% of BIMM students are in employment six months after graduating, and of those, 70% are working in the music industry. We connect our students directly to the global music business through a range of ongoing opportunities, including Masterclasses hosted by international superstars, end-of-term gigs, festivals, the BIMM album, A&R showcases, internships and more. And it means our students are networking for potential career openings while they study, so they’re literally ready to rock and roll upon graduation.
4. Our degrees are awarded by the University of Sussex – a UK top 20 ranking university
As of October 2017, BIMM degree programmes in London, Berlin, Brighton, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham will be validated by the prestigious University of Sussex. Ranked the 7th best UK university for graduate prospects in 2017 by The Guardian, the 18th best university in the UK in 2017 by The Complete University Guide and The Times and The Sunday Times’ Good University Guide, and 149th in the World University Rankings by The Times Higher Education supplement, the University of Sussex has a long history of academic success. At BIMM, we’re proud to be strengthening our already close relationship with them as we strive to improve our offering for our students year upon year.
5. We offer more than just performance courses
Did you know that, on top of studying Performance (Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals) and Songwriting at BIMM, we also offer a wide range of non-performance music courses, including a selection of degrees and diplomas in Music Business, Music Journalism, Music Production and Event Management? So budding journalists, producers, managers and music business entrepreneurs need look no further than BIMM to learn the skills, knowledge, practical experience and connections they’ll need for an enduring career in music.
