Course Overview
The BIMM Dublin CPD Diploma in Professional Musicianship (Performance) is a one-year programme comprised of three key modules from the BIMM Dublin BA Honours programme. It is an ideal course for anyone who wishes to further their musical abilities, but cannot make the commitment or lacks the entry requirements to undertake a full-time programme. This is a part-time (4.5 hours a week), one-year programme, aimed at musicians with semi-professional ability. It is designed to help you reach your full potential as a Songwriter. The course is fully validated by the Dublin Institute of Technology, and a student who completes the course succesfully will be awarded 30 ECTS credits. This may allow for progression to the BA (Hons) Songwriting Degree.

Modules
These are the modules you'll be studying over the year:
Songwriting Techniques
This module is all about the development of your creative ideas and turning them into finished songs. Topics include: hooks, subject matter, lyric writing, song form and structure, elemenatry arrangement and basic studio production techniques - as used by some of the world's most successful composers.
Arrangement Analysis
The deconstruction of successful songs by analysing structure, instrumentation, orchestration and stylistic elements via critical listening and aural perception to develop your understanding of professional songwriting. This will broaden your writing, arrangement and production vocabulary and aid your own writing ability.
Music Theory and Arrangement (Songwriting)
A comprehensive study of the theory behind the music, including practical applicatins of theoretical concepts. This module will alos facilitate the development of basic sight-reading ability and chart-writing skills, to better prepare you for the range of musical situations you are likely to encounter.
Entry Requirements
You will need to attend an audition so that we can get an idea of your current songwriting and playing standard. You should be able to demonstrate songwriting experience evidenced by a portfolio of material with the ability to process and create melodic, harmonic and considered lyric material. You will also need to show basic instrument ability on guitar or keyboard and intermediate vocal performance level. Applicants should be 17 on the 1st of January in the year of entry and should also have completed a module at Level 5. This is equivalent to Leaving Certificate or FETAC Level 5.
Fees
The course fees for 2013-2014 are €1,695 and these are payable directly to BIMM Dublin. A deposit of €300 will be required upon acceptance of a place.
CPD Diploma in Professional Musicianship
Students who successfully complete the CPD Diploma in Professional Musicanship will be awarded 30 ECTS credits.
