Music Production tutor

Toby has been a recording engineer for over a decade, cutting his teeth on analogue tape recorders at Metway Studios in Brighton. Over the years he has worked with Orbital, Asian Dub Foundation, The Maccabees, The Electric Soft Parade, Clearlake, 12 Stone Toddler and Metway’s proprietors, Levellers.

He learnt his trade from the ground up, starting out as a tea boy at Metway in 2000 after graduating from Brighton University with a degree in music and visual practice (specialising in computer animation). Since then, he has worked his way up the industry ladder, including recording sessions with his band Clearlake at London studios Mayfair and Konk. He learnt advanced ProTools editing techniques from Damian Taylor (Bjork, The Killers, Adam Freeland, Stone Lions) early into his career, working on multi-tracks from an array of respected producers like Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters).

Since arriving at BIMM in 2007, he has made a name for himself not only by delivering both the Studio Recording and Songwriter/Producer modules but also by producing some of the college’s finest talent on the annual BIMM compilation album.
