THE REAL DEAL

BIMM ETHOS

Run by Musicians for Musicians
Play Simple Things Well
Work Ethic

These are the 3 simple concepts on which BIMM was founded. It was conceived by music industry professionals who have been there and done it! Who have made their own mistakes, learnt the hard way, and now share their own experiences with the new generation of musicians and industry professionals.

BIMM IS RUN BY MUSICIANS FOR MUSICIANS
All BIMM tutors have also been there and done it! And all are incredible musicians and songwriters and music industry professionals. We have stadium level touring and multi-platinum hit record experience, have top session credits, regularly contribute to the national music press in journals and are dedicated teachers as well as working professionals. BIMM Tutors are at BIMM because of their commitment to music education.

We care about quality musical performance and have created an environment where artists and bands can develop within a thriving live scene. We measure the college by the quality of music that we collectively produce - it’s as simple as that.

PLAY SIMPLE THINGS WELL
Playing and writing 'simple' music to very high standards is what makes a musician professional. Of course we want musicians to be able to play anything from reggae to jazz fusion - but the point is we want you to do it well. Great musicians have authority and personality in their playing; particularly those with stadium level gigs and hit record experience under their belts. That's what makes us pay money to listen to them.

Playing simple things well is often the last element of a professional musician's development. Why? - because it's hard. This whole concept is difficult to teach and we will spend a lot of time discussing ways to make students aware of the hallmarks of professional performance. We will focus on timing, use of click tracks, phrasing and tone production, thereby working towards students gaining the confidence of a professional in their own work. We want to help each musician find their own voice too and encourage personality and self expression within musical performance. Our role is that of 'coach' as well as being specialist instrumental teachers.

WORK ETHIC
Sounding great counts for nothing unless you do something with it and this requites a whole new set of skills, energy and effort. Each musician is an individual and we recognise that. We want all the musicians at BIMM to establish their own realistic and obtainable career goals, underpinned by a solid plan and support from people with the professional knowledge to advise in a considered way. With hard work and effort anything is possible - as you can see by the achievements of some of our graduates.

Very often musicians who love music more than anything in the world find it hard to know which way to go, or who to turn to for help. Great music education is about setting realistic and obtainable goals. It's about us not only helping you to play and sing better than you thought possible, but also to help you develop a strategy for becoming successful as a professional musician. Whether you want to be a recording artist, song-writer, music teacher, session player or simply make a living out of doing what you love to do - BIMM can help.

WHAT WE BELIEVE IN
Commitment - setting the highest standards in the classroom, on stage and in the studio.
Respect - towards you and your career, great music (past and present) and the professionals who give us their time to be in the classroom.
Real Music Industry Involvement - from top professionals that will benefit all the musicians at BIMM.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
You must put everything you have into your work as a musician. You must take your development as seriously as we do. No one is saying that your time at BIMM will always be easy. There will be a lot of fun times but there will also be many obstacles to overcome. It's up to you to make the most out of this opportunity!
